Based in Little Rock, Arkansas, Dequita Crockett serves as a sign language interpreter with DLT Trust Inc. In this capacity, Dequita Crockett helps hearing and D/deaf individuals communicate through American Sign Language.
Ms. Crockett prepared for her career at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, where she earned a bachelor of science in ASL/English interpretation. She continued her education at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, earning a master of science in special education and deaf education. Her studies equipped her to provide interpretation and educational support for individuals with hearing impairments.
Since 2012, she has worked with DLT Trust Inc. to support communication in religious environments. Her responsibilities have included interpreting religious language and Bible-related material, assisting with meetings involving pastoral staff and deaf congregants, and creating programs for communication across religious platforms. She maintains professional ethics that emphasize confidentiality and impartiality.
Ms. Crockett has also contributed her interpreting skills through Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, Tennessee Catholic Mass, Iowa Deaf Connect of the MidSouth, and the National Civil Rights Freedom Awards. Away from work, she enjoys Broadway, reading, family time, and dogs.
She is an advocate for Domestic Violence, as she is a survivor herself. She advocates for those who are deaf and deaf-blind who find themselves as victims of domestic violence. She has been awarded for her community work.
